Jim Gasaway, CLU®, ChFC®,QPA, QKA, AIF®, ERPA
President
Jim helped found GIA in 1990 with his father Ed and is now the President of the firm. He grew up in the financial planning business and has a unique knowledge of retirement plans. He specializes in helping businesses customize, monitor, and administer their retirement plans. Jim graduated from Calvin College with a BA in Accounting.
Katie Mallette,
QPA, QKA, ERPA
Vice President of Retirement Planning
Katie is the head of the Retirement Plan Administration division of our firm, which handles the daily record keeping and administration of qualified retirement plans. She has been with us since 2003 when she began as an intern. Katie is a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Michigan University with a BA in Accounting.
Chase Imberger
Junior Advisor
Chase is a Financial Advisor assisting Jim with financial planning, investing, and meeting with clients to take care of their needs. Chase graduated from Calvin University with a degree in Economics and Finance with a concentration in Financial Planning. While he was in college, he played baseball for 2 years on the team at Calvin and was a pitcher. He enjoys outdoor activities on the weekend and tries to go to the lake as often as he can.
Ed Gasaway, MBA

Ed founded Gasaway Investment Advisors, Inc.“GIA” with his son Jim in 1990 with the goal of helping people in the Kalamazoo area achieve financial success. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Ed’s education led him into a career in financial services that has spanned over 40 years. Ed generously lends his time post-retirement helping out around the firm when and where he can.
Carla Powers
Corporate Operations Director
Carla is the Office Manager at GIA. She has over 25 years of experience as an office manager and has been with us since 1999. Carla handles all employee affairs as well as the operations of the company. She has an Associate's degree in Legal Secretarial Science from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Outside of work, Carla loves spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Caitlin Borton
Manager of Operations
Caitlin is the Project Manager and looks forward to working in other ways alongside the rest of the team. She will be the lead on projects such as CRM software, seminars, and marketing. Caitlin has her Associates in Business from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. In addition, she has a Bachelor's in Business Administration/Finance with a concentration in Financial Planning. Caitlin has worked in the field of Finance going on thirteen plus years. Outside of work Caitlin enjoys spending quality time with her two children, going for hikes, and spending time in nature.
Alexandra (Lexie) Hughes
Retirement Plan Representative
Lexie is a Retirement Plan Service Representative and assists in the daily record keeping and administration of qualified retirement plans. She has an Associate's degree in Accounting and is currently pursuing her Bachelor's degree.
Crystal Fraser
Retirement Plan Representative
Crystal is a Retirement Plan Service Representative and assists in the daily record keeping and administration of qualified retirement plans. She has a BA in Political Science from Indiana University along with over 10 years of administrative experience. Crystal likes photography, woodworking, and to travel in her free time.
